Notes update

We’re currently experiencing some issues related to our notes service. The main issues are related to creating and editing notes through the website interface.

In order to prevent further frustration, we will temporarily make the notes website interface read-only on Friday morning until the fixes are deployed. This temporary change will not affect notes synchronization through desktop applications like Tomboy. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and we are doing our best to get the bugs coded, tested, and released as soon as possible. You can track our progress by monitoring the following bugs in Launchpad:

Thank you for your patience and support! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment here or hop on the #ubuntuone channel on Freenode IRC to chat.

  1. Dave Busse Says:

Synchronization from TomBoy has stopped working as well.

  2. Ties Says:

    Synchronization works fine for me.

  3. saskvoch Says:

I am not sure if Tomboy syncs up on its own from time to time, but manual sync works fine by opening up a note, clicking “tools” and then “synchronize notes”. Works fine for me.

  4. Silverbaum Says:

No luck with Tomboy sync anymore. Just says “Synchronization failed” in XP and Ubuntu. N900′s Conboy has been giving json error getlist null or something similar but of course when I’m writing this and testing once more it now works fine…
Despite of the problems, this is great service in overall!

I have this kind of error on tomboy.log now, is this related to actual maintenance?:

also for me sync stopped working

  7. Chris Says:

My Tomboy syncs perfectly to the Ubuntu One-cloud, but I noticed that the cloud itself doesn’t show the memory usage of the tomboy notes. I don’t know if it’s a Bug or a feature…

  8. yoshy Says:

I have what one could call a “full fail” on my ubuntu one account! The note syncing fails by every means, on any computer or OS. When I try to access on my notes online I get a fail message as well: “something has gone wrong (500)”. And the changes I make to my ubuntuOne folder aren’t replicated on the web server no matter what I try. Good thing I don’t use contact syncronization, or else with the luck (or lack of it) I’m having I would be back to good old fashioned paper address book!

I really enjoy the Ubuntu One idea and all the potencial it has (file and application data syncing). But I really hope it becomes more reliable, specially if they intend that someone pay for the service!

  9. faisal Says:

tomboy note sync with ubuntu one has not been working for me since last week either.

  10. enda Says:

Well, Tomboy sync doesn’t work “everywhere” .. all right from one computer, not at all from another..

  11. Murray Says:

I also have a “full fail” on my ubuntu one account – can’t sync or access my existing notes via the web site at all. The notes on the server must have been corrupted or something, and I only get the “something has gone wrong (500)”. Sync with Tomboy doesn’t succeed, seems I have lost my notes.

  12. Matt Griffin Says:

For those of you that are having problems with Notes sync, thanks for telling us about the issue. The two most effective ways to get the issue fixed is to chat with us on IRC (#ubuntuone on freenode.net) or to file a bug. More information can be found here: https://one.ubuntu.com/support/
    Thanks!

Notes sync is working great. I love what you guys are doing, this is shaping up to be a killer app, not just for Ubuntu but for platforms in general. Being able to view and edit tomboy notes via the web interface is really useful for quickly checking a note (say, at work) or jotting something down.

A couple things would really expand it’s usefulness: 1) a mobile-friendly access to tomboy notes, via the iphone app or just a webapp. 2) expanding that to include any text file in your ubuntu one account. These two things would make it worth it for me to pay for the service.

Keep up the great work guys, you’re doing awesome things.
