PyCon sprint for Windows support
The Ubuntu One user community is great. In just a few short months, they’ve made some fantastic contributions extending Ubuntu One support to both KDE and Fedora.
One of the top requests we get is for wider support for users who work in a mixed platform environment (i.e., Ubuntu + Windows/Mac). While we offer the web browser option, we realize that the browser has definite limitations compared to the desktop.
This year at PyCon members of the Ubuntu One development team will focus on helping these users. The principal areas we’ll work on are porting to the Windows equivalent of D-bus, inotify, an installer, and a file manager plugin. If you’re heading to Atlanta in February, and this sounds interesting to you, please join our sprint.

Matt, We’ve received a lot of feedback from Ubuntu users who operate in a mixed platform environment. So we’re going to take a look and see what we can do to support Windows.

All the work being done to improve Ubuntu One is just fantastic. I see all the major issues I’ve had concerns about being addressed, and it makes me feel that a couple years down the road, this will be a killer service and a huge asset for Ubuntu.

How did this go? Do we have a way for me to work on my files from Windows yet?

They made some progress but are not quite there yet.

Salut!, This page is high-quality and so is how the subject was written about. I like some of the comments also even though I would suggest we all stay on the suject to add value to the message. It will be also encouraging to the one who penned it down if we all could make mention of it (for some of us who use bookmarking services such as a reddit, twitter,..). Thanks again.

Hello! I welcome your intention to do something for the mixed-platform-users. Personally I am in a such situation. A portable application synchronizing ubuntu one with a local share in Microsoft Windows would be a wonderful step. In my own area I use Ubuntu since years. But my employer is still using Windows for the clients. So I would appreciate a service as mentionned in your blog. If you are looking for testers: You can send me an e-mail. Thanks a lot for the user-friendliest Linux-distribution I know. Andreas
