Status: General Oneiric

Per bug 837332, we’ve spun a last minute upload of the kernel this morning to ensure CONFIG_EFI_VARS=y. We’ve also added this config to our enforcer now. I was a bit too strict with the enforcer check which has resulted in FTBFS for powerpc and arm. The release team has chosen to ignore those for now and we’ll get it resolved on the first upload after Beta-1.

  • Launchpad bug 837332 in linux (Ubuntu) “missing efi-modules udeb” [High,Fix released]
Additionally, upstream stable v3.0.4 has been released so we’ll be rebasing shortly. We’ll upload the v3.0.4 rebase as well as any queued patches on master-next this Friday after Beta-1 releases. I would also like to remind everyone that Kernel Freeze is fast approaching, ie Thurs Sept 15. After that, all patches are subject to our SRU policy in order to be applied. Some important upcoming dates to keep in mind are as
    follows:
  • Sept 1 – Beta 1 (2 days)
  • Sept 15 – Kernel Freeze (~2 weeks)
  • Sept 22 – Beta 2 (~3 weeks)
  • Oct 13 – Final Release (~6 weeks)
I’d also like to note that the P-series git repo was recently rebased it to v3.1-rc4. It’s available at git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-p.git master-next .

Status: Stable Kernel Team

We’ve finished the verification phase for Lucid and Maverick, which was
delayed due to time required to find regressions. Two fixes have been reverted
from those kernels due to a failure to have them verified.

In addition, another regression was reported in Lucid, and the patch was reverted.

Both Lucid and Maverick have been respun and uploaded, and the builds should
be completed tomorrow, and they will be ready to enter testing phase.

We have gone ahead and prepared the nect Natty kernel without waiting for the next
cycle to start for the other kernels, so that we don’t pile up more stable upstream
patches than we must. This effectively decouples Natty from the kernel cadence for
the other kernels

ARM Status

For every arm flavour but natty/ti-omap4 an update should be on its way out. Mainly the updated kernels contain CVEs fixes.
Oneiric/ti-omap4: work continues on lp709245, found a patchset that should enable localtimers even in the nosmp case but it doesn’t work out of the box, i’m debugging it ATM.

Status: General Oneiric

We’ve been uploading some last minute bug fixes prior to the Beta Freeze on Thurs. We uploaded the 3.0.0-9.13 Ubuntu kernel yesterday to fix a WARNING due to duplicate backlight registration, see LP 831542. We’ve just now uploaded the 3.0.0-9.14 kernel to make sure ECRYPT_FS=y, see LP 827197. We intend for this to be the last upload prior to Beta Freeze and the 3.0.0-9.14 kernel will be the kernel that will ship with the Beta-1 release.

Status of kernels

This is kernel prep week. Kernel prep will probably slip for any kernels which
do not complete testing and make release this week. I have requested estimates for testing
completion but have not received them, so I can’t make any predictions about when
we will begin verification for most of the kernels for the next cycle.

We have had problems with innacurate updates to tracking bugs. In one case a comment
was added stating that certification testing had begun when it had not. It was only
determined six days later that testing had not begun.

Kernel status for each series is as follows:

  • Released
We’re working through issues around pre-mature publishing of hardy kernel to -updates

Hardy

  • Hardy Tracking Bug
  • Was released in error after my status mail incorrectly said it was ready for release.

Lucid

Maverick

  • Previous version was published, prep has begun for next cycle
