Some armel udebs were accidentally removed from the archive over the weekend. As a result, it was easiest to just upload a 2.6.35-19.28 kernel to re-generate the missing udebs. There is no real change in code. Beta Freeze is in effect as the Maverick Beta release is this Thurs Sept 2nd. That means no kernel uploads without the approval of the release team until after the Beta release. Also, keep in mind that Kernel Freeze is Thurs Sept 16th, ie ~2weeks away. Remember after Kernel Freeze, we transition to our SRU policy in order to apply patches. We are above our Beta burn down chart’s trend line. I’ll be re-targetting beta work items to the final release milestone tomorrow. Looking ahead towards our final release, we need to start closing out all remaining open work items to ensure we stay below the overall burn down chart.

Security & bugfix kernels – Karmic/Jaunty/Intrepid/Hardy/Others

Lucid 2.6.32-24.42 has moved to updates just today. Uploaded 2.6.32-25.43 which contains the accumulated upstream stable releases until 2.6.32.21 but currently excludes the drm portions. We are in the process to collect those drm patches since the end of 2.6.33.y that look good for stable backports. Rebased uploads for Lucid-ec2 and Lucid-mvl-dove will follow shortly.

Incoming Bugs: Bug day report

Next week’s bug day will be focused on bugs in the Triaged state. We will work through getting them tagged with the appropriate subsystem and make sure that the ones that need to be looked at more closely are tagged appropriately. We will continue to have the Team Bug Day to address the Top 50 list as half days on Friday and Monday. Reviewers, please take a look at your needs-review lists and help us keep the process moving. Please also take ownership of your bugs as you work them so we can get them fixed or otherwise off the list. There are several subsystems owned by all that need to be reviewed for inclusion in our top 50 list.

Triage Status

I have not taken the time this week to work with the kernel bug triagers, but I hope to do so this coming week. I’ve been, and will need to continue, working on work items so that they are being closed out. There is much work being done, but some of them have required more than I was prepared for. The Triage Sumit will be on the 11th. I’m sending out e-mail on it today.

Status: Maverick

Our Maverick kernel is now rebased to v2.6.35.3 and uploaded as linux-2.6.35-18.24. We’ve also most notably dropped support for ia64 and sparc per the Tech Board decision.

Maverick Beta is Thurs Sept 2nd, ie ~1week away. Beta Freeze is this Thurs, so I’ll be uploading our Beta kernel today. Also, keep in mind that Kernel Freeze is Thurs Sept 16th, ie ~3weeks away. Remember after Kernel Freeze, we transition to our SRU policy in order to apply patches to Maverick.

We are above our Beta burn down chart’s trend line but below our overall trend line for the cycle. I’ll be following up with individuals who have open work items to see if we can close any out.

Security & bugfix kernels – Karmic/Jaunty/Intrepid/Hardy/Others

New security release was done (currently trying to figure out a Hardy
regression in Xen that was caused by that).

Uploads to proposed have been re-done for Karmic and Lucid. The uploads
for Lucid-LBM and Lucid-mvl-dove still pending acceptance.

One regression fix from Lucid proposed have been moved into the security
update as the severity was high enough.

The security update for Lucid-fsl-imx51 included all proposed patches in
order to prevent any further bricking issues with babbage2.5 boards.

Incoming Bugs: Bug day report

Today’s focus is on bugs with patches. I’ll be reviewing them to ensure that there is a patch actually attached. Per Pete, there will then be a review of the bugs to see if the patch has already been included or if it is sufficient to be included. This process will be getting further defined once I submit my rough plan to Pete for how to complete the review and inclusion of patches in the future. The next bug day will be next Tuesday. We will be focusing on bugs in the confirmed state and working to move them either into incomplete or triaged states. We will continue to have the Team Bug Day to address the Top 50 list as half days on Friday and Monday, as these seem to be working out very well. Reviewers, please take a look at your needs-review lists and help us keep the process moving. Please also take ownership of your bugs as you work them so we can get them fixed or otherwise off the list.

Triage Status

I’m getting pinged by the Ubuntu Studio folks who are concerned about whether the realtime kernels will be available for Maverick. I was in Oxford last week, so I don’t have much on this yet. I’d be interested to hear if any of you encountered any triagers or their questions over the last week.

Blueprint: kernel-maverick-pv-ops-ec2-kernel

pv-on-hvm has been postponed to M+1, there was not going to be an AMI to support the CC in Maverick so it made no sense to push it in. Instead we are going to roll a kernel PPA including pv-on-hvm for testing purposes.
Bug 574910 – high load averages. Appears to be mostly phantom load + possible a few other bugs piling on. Reverting commit 0d843425672f4d2dc99b9004409aae503ef4d39f seems to clean it up. Though we haven’t seen user report success back with the test kernel.
Bug 606373 – not bug 554172 or bug 431103 related. Need to poke at it more.
Bug 613273 – has not been replicated or happened again

I have 4 bugs that I haven’t really gotten a chance to look at yet,

Status: Maverick

Since our Maverick kernel is now rebased on v2.6.35, we’ve started applying 2.6.35.y pre-stable patches. We’ll keep Maverick in sync with the 2.6.35.y releases as they become available.
Maverick Beta is Thurs Sept 2nd, ie ~3weeks away. Also keep in mind that Kernel Freeze is Thurs Sept 16th, ie ~5weeks away. We are above our Beta burn down chart’s trend line but I’m
not too worried as most of the open tasks are investigative in nature and not release critical.

until we get feedback on the patch actually fixing the issue.

Incoming Bugs: Bug day report

Today is the Bug Day. We are focusing on bugs incorrectly listed as new. These will be put in the correct state and their subsystem tag will be added. I’ll update next week with the result. We will continue to have the Team Bug Day to address the Top 50 list as half days on Friday and Monday, as these seem to be working out very well. Reviewers, please take a look at your needs-review lists and help us keep the process moving. I will be in Oxford, UK next week, so I’ll send my metrics update to bjf via e-mail.

Triage Status

Great work is being done daily in our bugs due to many folks from other userspace systems helping to triage as well as providing numerous nuggets of wisdom to the bug reporters themselves. We met simar during last weeks meeting. simar is workin on expanding multitouch knowledge and looking over those bugs. holstein has been looking at kernel bugs and is currently undergoing bug mentorship with hggdh. I have been mentoring chazn85 also, focusing on tagging and requests for information. chazn85 has also been looking through our wiki documentation to bring inconsistencies to my attention. I’d also like to thank charlie-tca for all of the work he has been doing ion kernel bugs as well.

Open Discussion or Questions: Anyone have anything?

  • We will be having our Monday bug chat on Friday at the usual time since JFo will be in Oxford and unavailable next week.

2.6.35 final was released over the weekend. As a result we did a last minute rebase and upload for Maverick, ie 2.6.35-14.19. This is what will be included in the Alpha3 images. Please test.
Alpha 3 is this Thurs Aug 5th. We are still above our Alpha 3 burn down chart’s trend line. If you still have open Alpha 3 work items that will not be completed by EOD tomorrow, push the item(s) out to -beta or mark it POSTPONED if it appears it won’t be completed this cycle.

Incoming Bugs: Bug day report

The Bug Day for this week was cancelled due to sickness on my part over the last week. It was not announced, so I opted not to have it. I will send out a notice for the Bug Day for next week today. We will be focused on bugs that have been incorrectly set to the New state as well as removing duplicates on those we encounter that are not a complete hardware match. A secondary focus will be on tagging them with the relevant subsystem. We will continue to have the Team Bug Day to address the Top 50 list as half days on Friday and Monday, as these seem to be working out very well. Reviewers, please take a look at your needs-review lists and help us keep the process moving.

Open Discussion or Questions

  • A ‘Triage Status’ agenda item will be added to the regular meeting agenda. This time will be spent recognizing triagers and discuss triage issues.
